Internet dating in the nineties - How did it end?

In my standard eight year (that would be grade 10 for the millennials) my parents bought “The internet” for Christmas. In our minds the internet was just a compilation of every Huisgenoot/You Magazine school project insert that was ever published. Now I wouldn’t have to page through a flip file with magazine pages meticulously collected by my mom and grandma over the past 20 years. I could just type the subject I was looking for into a search bar and voila! The world at my fingertips. Full marks for every school research project from here on out. (Pft, if only it was that easy…)

Top tips for travelling when you are older - Part 5

18 years ago I met a really cute guy at work. We were best friends for a year before he realised he liked me as much as I liked him. We were together for three years, working hard and slowly but surely building a life together. We had good jobs, reliable transport, a lounge suite, good crockery and nice glasses. We were all set for a good life and a white picket fence when we got a little rebellious and sold our bakkie and most of our crockery to buy plane tickets to London…

Top tips for travelling when you are older - Part 4

Over the past few weeks I have shared my top travelling tips for older travellers. Because, let’s be honest with ourselves here: You do change a little between the ages of 21 and 36.

When we were 21 we simply booked ourselves into a cheap hostel room with 12 other people and started exploring whatever city we were in at the time. At 21 this is a great way to travel. You get to meet some amazing people (by sleeping a foot away from them), you can drink beer from 6AM without anyone batting an eyelid and you pay very very little for your bed…
